History
The origins of Savcor Forest Group lie in the combination of hardware and software for corrosion control systems in pulp and paper industries.
Savcor found at an early stage that Finland’s pulp and paper industry suffered chronic and costly corrosion problems. The first on-site cathodic protection system was built and installed, patently aware that if the test failed it’d probably not get another chance. Hannu Savisalo and Martti Pulliainen remember the weeks before the tank was shut down and reopened for inspection as the most tense period of their life. And that’s probably why the result was such a shock.
“I was surprised, I must admit, and so was everybody else,” Hannu Savisalo recalls. “We were surprised it had worked so perfectly. There was no evidence at all of new pitting corrosion in the tank. I knew we had something quite revolutionary on which to build a vital, worldwide business.”
The initial objective was to response to the demand of developing continuous control and reaction systems, followed by information technology-based solutions. That need generated the second portfolio of Savcor’s intellectual property, the information technology. The IT was booming in the 80’s and new advanced innovations were utilised by Savcor’s young IT team. The Pulp and Paper Industry IT -solutions were later adapted to Forestry and other Forest based industries. Development of IT- solutions for forestry and solid wood industries expanded the customer groups into forest harvesting organisations, sawmills and logistics operators. Finally all Savcor companies which served forest based customers merged to the Savcor Forest Group.
Nowadays Savcor Forest Group is a global operator in delivering performance optimisation solutions for the entire forest industry. Savcor Forest Group is a part of the Savcor Group Oy; a family-owned technology firm established in 1981 in Mikkeli, Finland. The firm has grown to be a global corporate with various business areas and over 1800 employees.
